Ottobre Overall Dress

Milly is a big fan of the overall dress. She has one she wears all the time so when the latest Ottobre (1/2017) arrived with a great overall dress pattern in I asked if she wanted another one (or two). Of course she did. This one is made from some stretchy denim from the stash. I think it might have come from Textile Traders.
I used scraps of quilting cotton for the binding and pocket facing and some press studs from Spotlight instead of buttons. They weren't hard to put on, but they don't feel good quality and I wouldn't want to be opening and closing them much. I think I'll use buttons on the next one. It was all top stitched with Gutermann top stitching thread.
As usual the Ottobre instructions did not make total sense as I read through them, but I followed each step and it worked out pretty well. I might alter the order a couple of things were done next time and shorten the length of the straps (the extra length is hidden inside) but it is a great pattern. I have quite a stack of Ottobre patterns and each year I think I should stop the subscription but it's hard to find good patterns for the 12 year olds and Ottobre is one of the few places the girls find things they want to wear.
The fabric for the next one is already on the cutting table in the 'to make' pile.

Modern Clamshell Mini Quilt

One of my goals for this year was to make some time each week to go through my notebooks and try some of the things I've sketched in them.
This is the Creative Grids Circle Savvy ruler. Once you work out the maths and which lines you need (hint - make them with washi tape) it is easy to use.
I joined my quarter circles to make clamshells.

And then arranged my 16 clamshells to make this mini quilt.
Working with only solid fabrics is a change from what I normally do and part of me wishes I added in just a teeny bit of patterned fabric into at least one of the clamshells.

Simplicity 2246 #2

Another Simplicity 2246 for Mum. Mum's favourite colours are blue and green so this Liberty lawn from my stash was perfect. The great thing about sewing a pattern for the second time is you have all the fitting issues sorted so it is quite relaxing. She has picked fabric for one more so a little more relaxing sewing is coming up.

Improv Mini Quilts

I made an improv wall hanging for my Mum a few years ago and have always meant to make a few more for our house. So much fun and quite relaxing to make.
The first two are made from quilting cotton most of which came from our wonderful local quilting shop Sew Gentle Era.

For this one I incorporated some scraps of barkcloth, left overs from a tunic I made last year and some Kaufman chambray. The chambray was so nice to sew with and I think I need to use it on more quilts.

Everglade Mini Quilt

I've finished my Everglade blocks. I'm not sure if it will end up as a mini quilt or a big pillow. I loved sewing these blocks and I'm already onto my next appliqué project!
